The Chinese people will never allow any foreign force to bully, oppress, or enslave us. Anyone who tries to do so shall be battered and bloodied from colliding with a great wall of steel, forged by more than 1.4 billion Chinese people using flesh and blood.

THOUGHTS FROM DOUG

Has China started to build its next Great Wall? A digital wall? An economic wall? A wall that keeps out free speech, free thinking and a market-oriented economy?

Fits and spurts, fits and spurts, fits and spurts. That’s my economic projection for the next couple of years. One quarter will look good to great, the next quarter could look anemic, and on and on. Why? Because we can’t put the just-in-time Humpty Dumpty global economy back together again quickly.

Los Angeles restores mask mandate. The Delta variant keeps spreading. Doctors want kids to wear masks to school. Might we be headed for another lockdown?

Here comes the child tax credit, but the eviction moratorium ends this month. And in September, the extra unemployment benefits and student loan suspensions expire. I wonder what the cumulative economic math might be here? Time for a new stimulus?

Noble: What does that word mean these days? Who is noble? What is noble behavior? Does being noble even matter? And what about honor?

Is the global corporate income tax initiative just a way for non-innovative countries to generate revenue from companies in innovative countries? Is this a way for market-oriented countries to support socialist-oriented countries?

The foundation to Judeo Christian society is guilt and shame for sins we’ve committed against our spiritual laws. Despite the decline in citizen participation in traditional religion, it seems we haven’t shaken the yoke of guilt and shame and have transferred it to the new religions of politics, climate change, racial justice, genderism and social and economic equity. Members of a Judeo Christian society just can’t seem to live without guilt and shame.
